been a little busy for my liking…

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

So much to tell… so little time.

Honestly, I’ve been blogging elsewhere. Pouring my heart and soul in another blog. No, it’s not Multiply… neither is it in my private island. But this is my newly acclaimed territory. Nicely catered for me and my teen readers. Some might guessed where it is. The hint is there in that sentence itself.

anyways.. this week is terribly hectic for me. Will be coming back at 11pm.. and I’ll be too tired to even switch on the pc to blog. But, time management is there… to blog and chat is NOT impossible, but it’s the letharigicness and physical health.

I’m coming down with a flu. I made a silly and sad joke in the AIKOL lift today. My dear friend asked, "You don’t look so well, Sarah" she said. I replied smilingly and knowingly this is a lame sad joke/answer… "yeah… I think I’m gonna be sick with flu. But then again, I’m already sick as it is…" and i smiled at her.

I think the people in the lift started to feel sorry for me. Haha.. it was meant to be a joke. But, I guess tak jadi lah sebab it’s sad. Why is it sad? Because I’m in a wheelchair and I am known to have a disease. It’s funny how I made the joke to laugh at myself, but no one is laughing with me.

On other news, I found something interesting in Cinemaonline.com

The Da Vinci Code Faces Legal Battle

By Brian J. Chong

"The co-authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail are suing the publishers of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code
for copyright infringement. In their claim, they say that Brown lifted
the controversial storyline of his book from theirs, which was
published more than 20 years ago. The Da Vinci Code has sold about 40 million copies worldwide so far since its publication in 2003.

Despite this legal obstacle, the film version of “The Da Vinci Code” will not be affected in any way…."

Well… so long as the movie is still not effected, that’s good.. i think.

~~~***~~~
Other news : The revival is out. Revival is a forthnightly issue produced by TAILERAG (Tan Sri Ahmad Ibrahim’s Legal Research Group). I did a little "Sarah" work in there. I had a WORDSEARCH done. Legal words to be searched. I felt like contributing, and I did.
I’m having flu… I hate this blocked & running nose. I have a busy schedule this whole week… aduh. God, give me strength to go through this week. Don’t make me weak for the week. *there i go again.. lame lame…*
better go.. i think the medicine is kicking in.
this was how the case went… on my birthday
…23rd February, 2006.
I had a court HEARING. A hearing based on a real event.
Facts : Plaintiff, a person on a wheelchair, wants to continue his education in the Ampang campus of International School of KL.
Defendant, denying the plaintiff’s rights, due to lack of funding to give special attention and care to plaintiff, if he enrolls in the school…
I am representing the…. *drumrolls* DEFENDANT!
funny ain’t it. It’s my very first case to practice on. I have to practice to not be emotional. Not to relate my condition to the defendant’s detriment.
Original case : Plaintiff’s application was allowed.
Present situation : PLAINTIFF’S APPLICATION WAS DISMISSED!
Me? Just amazed that I got to represent a case and won. However, credits must be given to Melati. She did a wonderful rebuttal. Well, it’s no surprise actually. She is the most humblest world class speaker I’ve seen. World Speaker.
It was funny how she continued to do the same blunder as al the other mooters do.
"Yang Arif" with "Your Excellencies"
Funny and cute.
Whatever it is, thank you so much, Melati, Nik Waheeda and Laila for being a very easy and cooperative group. Civil Procedure work is so much fun when you’re with laid back people who CAN do their job.
All the best to each of you.
May I never be the opposing party in any court for any of you. *Ha ha*
~THANK YOU EVERYONE~
Thursday, February 23rd, 2006
From the time the hour had turned 12am, 23rd February, 2006… my phone was swamped with calls. First sms was from Yuhana Ashikin… about 3 hours earlier than EVERYONE else!
Img_0151Then came a personal wish and hug from Shahril. And on his way to go back home, Hazlina sms-ed… and called to wish. So did her brother Sheik Azri
To list down the chronological events of endless wishes and good will of the pre-day, day and night would be really long. I’ve never felt so secretly blessed to have such friends who cared!
Thank you to all that wished… via sms, greeting cards, personal notes, calling in the middle of the night.. calling in my midst of being crazy *swamped with fear of my hearing*, singing and singing… especially, Nadia *early in the morning temaning*, Farhana… for making it so obvious to Madam Siti Junaidah of my birthday…
Oh.. who can forget Adam’s "Zippo" blowing afer Dr. Iqbal’s class.. *utter embarasement if he heard*… the singing "happy birthday in the cafeteria at 3:30pm… at the time of me being so tired waiting for my hearing…
Fary, Kabir, Raina… for that temaning of my "b’day lunch" at Egypt Sun, Economics… that bit of tears and finally getting to let it out was what I needed… THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Ouh, Rajdeep, Nadirah… for calling to wish. Nahzatul Shareena… someone who I miss dearly. She was my "daughter" before she graduated. yes.. before I had Nadia, Fary, Pucha, P’ning and Donna.. I had Ina kecik… who was and still is a very adorable "daughter".
Ouhh.. who can forget Fara Kamal for calling me at night…. Najwa, Suhana.. for the Hallmark cards online. And Kevin Koo for remembering my day…
School mates, Ojah, Sri, Azreena, Fatiha Hana
Am i missing anyone? Endless of testimonials.. Syed, Mazani, Nadia, Tasha, Najwa, Nadia Jasmine, Faizal, Nina, Yuhana, Ameliya, Pucha, Shaira, Shocolazee and Elena
My cousin, Nursham… for entertaining me with sms in class.
Img_0169
Img_0147Above all, I’d love to thank my parents, for having and sticking by me when all things seems to close up more on me. My sister, for such a beautiful gift and such wonderful VIDEO MMS… My Shahril, who had bought a MANCHESTER KEYCHAIN & CLOCK!!
*I know.. this isn’t the award.. to be thanking everyone.. but, I can’t help it.. I feel blessed.*
No pictures were taken, but my mind is occupied with so many wonderful memories. For once, even though I had a camera within my reach, I didn’t find the need to take pictures. Maybe it’s because as Dr. Iqbal says, "You don’t need to take pictures. Memories are preserved in the mind…" such profound words!
OTHER NEWS :
Img_01431. Defendant had won the case. I was defendant. But in all circumstances in situation, full credit should be given to my group as a whole for making this grouping session a success. AND thank you Melati for a such wonderful rebuttal!
2. I had dinner @ Vichudda with Shahril. Guess what? My other friend who is the same birthdate as I, who loves to have food without sayur, who loves sushi… HE had dinner at Vichudda right after I finished mine. What are the odds? Was he surprised? YES! Was I surprised? Very much… Scary lah Syahrun thinks and feels the same as I.
Now.. it’s almost 2:30am.. i think i better take a nap.
Yet again.. i won
Ahh… happy V’Day to those who celebrate…
Tuesday, February 14th, 2006
Happy V’Day to those who celebrate. For me, well.. as I said before, I
finally found somebody who doesn’t treat me special on this day alone.
He has the concept of ‘everyday is a Valentine’s Day’. I like that concept better.
What
did we do today? Well, I got back.. all raring to go out with my
girlfriends. They in turn had some unavoidable matters to deal with…
so, i slept.
My boy..? He was job hunting. From one paper to
another paper. Transition of searching for a new job is so difficult. I
can only stay far and watch. Be his cute girlfriend and relieve his
stress if he calls for it.
It was raining heavily and it was so
nice to have such cold weather to sleep in. When I woke up, a little
hungry and wanting to have Shepherd’s Pie @ Secret Recipe, I texted my
boy.
He replied, what time you wanna go have dinner, sayang?
I replied, would 6 be ok?
He answered, ok, sayang. Get ready first. I’ll bring you to Secret Recipe for dinner.
We got there at 6:30pm. I had my Shepherd’s Pie and Iced Chocolate with Whipped Cream. He had hot latte.
It was a nice weather to be out with him. I realized that we were actually on a date. Why? Because his friends were not around.
To
me, a date simply means just the two of us. And THAT my dear readers,
is something neither of us get. We would always have our friends to be
together in the picture. It’s either he calls his friends to join us OR
I have my friends join us for dinner.
Rare occassion that we go on a date.
Although,
to him, dating would mean being better dressed. He was wearing his
three-quater pants with a "JEEP" t-shirt. A simple dressing.
To me, I don’t care. He could be dining with only his pants on.. I’d still call it a date.
Asked him, "Sayang, do you celebrate Valentine in the past?"
He answered, "Well, I don’t. But, my previous girlfriend do…"
"I don’t understand… she gives you flowers and candies ker?" I asked.
He answered, "Of course not. But, she wanted flowers, so I got her flowers."
All I could do was chuckle. Overly-priced flowers, that girl MUST be special…
hmm… I wonder where is she now?
Small world…
Monday, February 6th, 2006
Ok…
stop reading here if you can’t stand mushy stuff… Coz, I’m warning
you this is gonna be about my surprised at how small the world is.. in
my love life with Shahril Nizam Abdul Karim… It’s not going to be a
long one… i think not.. but I know that it’s a little mushy…
As many who knows my relationship with Shahril Nizam is an odd one. We
live practically next to each other but for the 3 years that i lived in
the area, (since 2000) he didn’t know i existed! I knew he was my next
door neighbour… but it’s always.. "that guy who looks like Nasir Bilal Khan" or "that guy with the very noisy Charade and noisy geng kereta"… Name was far from my mind.
Somehow, in 2003, i fell ill. I was housebound. I can’t meet anyone
because of my medication. It lowered my immune system, making me prone
to infections and viruses and bacterias. ALL I did was online with
streamyx. I took one semester off. Computer and the internet line
became my best friend. My window to connect to the outside world.
Shahril. Met him in friendster. Funny. Really funny. We even chat on
yahoo messenger. Living next door but we chat. he’d see me through
viewcam. He comes over sometimes… somehow, after 2 weeks of getting
to know you.. I was his girl. Up til now.
Let me tell you about Shahril. He is my neighbour. There’s a house in
between the both of our houses, but we practically could walk to each
other’s house.
He was my senior in primary and high school. I remembered being a
librarian in high school. The time I met with Nizam. I was form 1 back
then. Budak2 geek baju hijau. Wasn’t gila kuasa… i just love books.
In due time, the "librarian" pose merge with the "pusat sumber-ians"
Shahril - he was a pusat sumber-ian. He was form 5. I was form 1. He
was in the morning session. I was the evening session. I was not so
into tall skinny guys back then. He was just not interested in females.
I was serious in studies. Well.. he was a guy in high school. All they
did was fun.
As you can see. Our paths NEVER crossed.
After he ended form 5, he had worked part time in Living Quaters. That
was when I was at the age of 14 or so. Form 2. That time, I was a
following-mom-to-OU mode. So… I went Living Quaters. So close, yet
never noticed him then either.
OU was his Fav spot to lepak. OU was my fav spot to lepak too. Back
then, we walk around the same circle of our housing area and the
shopping complexes.. but never had we said "hi".
TONIGHT… as he was telling me fondly that he won 5th place at a
drawing and colouring competition during his younger years at Cameron
Highlands; I remembered a vague picture of me as a kid squatting down
on the floor colouring a "kemerdekaan" drawing. I couldn’t remember the
place, but I told him partially about it.
GUESS WHAT… and I swear he wasn’t trying to act like he was there. HE
WAS THERE COLOURING TOO!! He remembered the theme and also the place.
He remembered the atmosphere. Small world huh?
We had plenty of chances to meet in the past.. even as a kid.. but, God made it as such; "Sarah, you’re not meeting him… there will be the time you meet him…" Then one day…
"It’s time for you to cross paths and meet with Shahril Nizam Abdul Karim…"
Don’t you think it’s weird sayang?
Protest over Islamic cartoon…
Friday, February 3rd, 2006
In Denmark and beyond, Muslims ask: "What’s so funny?"
In the Muslim world, the boycott is on
Daily Star, Lebanon
In the Arab world, the boycott is on
Angry reactions from Muslims in Denmark and beyond have become
louder and more threatening in the months since Denmark’s national
daily, Jyllands-Posten, published a dozen cartoons satirizing Islamic subjects last September. (One has just been reprinted by Germany’s Die Welt; it shows the prophet Mohammed wearing a black turban in the shape of a bomb, with a lit fuse. See cartoon below.)
Now, with a boycott of Danish-made products spreading throughout the
Muslim world, Jyllands-Posten has issued a public apology for its
publication of the cartoons. Editor in chief Carsten Juste, in an open
letter to Muslims on his paper’s Web site (in Danish, English and Arabic
(PDF)), wrote: "In our opinion, the 12 drawings were sober. They were
not intended to be offensive, nor were they at variance with Danish
law, but they have indisputably offended many Muslims, for which we
apologize."
Commenting on the controversy, Denmark’s prime minister, Anders Fogh Rasmussen,
supported freedom of speech. He said: "A Danish government cannot say
’sorry’ for a Danish newspaper." But he also distanced himself from the
provocative, published material. He added: "My personal respect for
people’s religious beliefs means that I would never represent Mohammed,
Jesus or another religious figure in a way that would offend others." (Copenhagen Post)
For the editors of Saudi Arabia’s Arab News
Juste’s statement wasn’t enough. The paper’s lead editorial today
argues that his apology "is unlikely to take the sting out of the
situation or ease the hurt and resentment that millions of Muslims
feel." Arab News adds: "The depictions of the Prophet as a terrorist
were clearly intended to offend. How could they do otherwise?…There
are many things which are legal, but that does not make them right.
Worse, [Juste] says he still does not regret publishing the cartoons.
Does he not regret doing something that has done immense damage to
Danish-Muslim relations?…That has probably put Danish troops in Iraq
at unique risk from Al-Qaeda?"
Arab News also blasts Prime Minister Rasmussen for his "categorical
refusal to apologize" for Jyllands-Posten’s publication of the cartoons
"because it would be against the laws on freedom of speech." It
continues: "[I]f it does go against the law, the answer is simple:
Change the law. Follow the British example: Outlaw religious hatred."
Arab News points to British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s
effort to toughen anti-hate laws in the U.K. However, last night Blair
was "humiliated" in Parliament when his proposed legislation was loudly
voted down. Opponents feared it would have prevented "religious debate
and undermine[d] free speech," even though Blair’s government had
insisted it would only have been applied in cases in which someone had
"deliberately or recklessly stirred up hatred of religious believers." (Independent)
Along with reprinting one of the controversial cartoons, Die Welt
asked: "How much humor is compatible with the religion of Islam, this
metaphysics of world conquest by an early medieval robber prince, who
with his caravan army created a great empire on the basis of polygamy
and a strict code of honor?" The conservative daily added that the
"standard of measure set by the Muslims" with regard to how far is too
far when it comes to satirizing religious subjects poses "a challenge
for an open society"
By contrast, the leftist Berliner Zeitung has
acknowledged that, in the controversy over the cartoons, Europe is
again "defending its values" of free expression, but it also advised
that Muslim anger over the drawings should be taken seriously. "[I]f we
really want to protect our values, then we should respect this call for
[a] boycott and just accept the sacrifices [it] will incur, as the
sacrifices of a civil, market-oriented way of life," the Berlin daily
counseled. (Cited by Der Spiegel)
Apparently, France Soir
couldn’t disagree more. "We have a right to caricature God," the
conservative French daily declares. The paper has republished
Jyllands-Posten’s trouble-making cartoons. It even commissioned its own
new drawing, which depicts "a peeved Mohammed sitting on a cloud with
Buddha, a Jewish God and a Christian God, who says: ‘Don’t complain
Mohammed, we’ve all been caricatured here.’" (Cited by the Times; cartoons not available on France Soir’s Web site.)
In an editorial, France Soir recognizes that the
images originally published in Denmark had "shocked the Muslim world,
for whom the representation of Allah and his prophet is banned." But it
added that since "no religious dogma can impose its view on a
democratic and secular society," it had decided to republish them.
"Enough lessons from these reactionary bigots!" France Soir concluded.
Its editorial asserted: "There is nothing in these…cartoons that
intends to be racist or denigrate any community as such. Some are
funny, others less so. That’s it….No, we will never apologize for
being free to speak, to think and to believe." (Times)
